He’s baaacckk. Yours and my favorite behavioral economist,
Dan Ariely, turns his attention to helping us understand what makes us feel good about what we do for a living and what motivates us to work in this TED Talk.
Hint: It’s not money. It might not even be about being happy.
When we think about labor, we usually think about motivation and payment as the same thing, but the reality is that we should probably add all kinds of things to it — meaning, creation, challenges, ownership, identity, pride.” – Dan Ariely
Whether you’re one of the lucky people who feels a sense of satisfaction in their job or one of those who’s just in it for the paycheck, check out his TED Talk to understand why. Just a lil something to think about over the weekend…
If you want to understand why people make some of the choices we do (especially the ones that don’t make sense), I highly recommend his book, Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions. I read it back in 2009 and reviewed it on Goodreads, but I posted my review here if you want to check it out.
