The Courage to Be Disliked

The title makes a pretty bold claim and so far, the book is interesting. It’s based on Adlerian theory, which I was not familiar with until I picked up this book. The book starts off with the premise that all problems are interpersonal relationship problems and that our past has no bearing on our present. I’m only about 1/4 way through the book so I’m not sure I’m totally sold on that but thus far, it makes some interesting points.

The text is presented in short chapters as a conversation between a Philosopher and a Youth. The Philosopher explains Adlerian psychology and the Youth, well they argue against the Philosopher’s points. 🙂 The format makes for quick and uncomplicated reading but it does become a little wearisome after a bit. Still, I think I prefer this more succinct presentation versus the typically bloated and repetitive content in most self-help/business/professional development type of books.
